I. Method 1: Identify with the naked eye

Fake bird’s nests are often very sophisticatedly counterfeited from starch, egg whites and fish cartilage. If you look at it, you will not be able to distinguish between fake bird’s nests and real bird’s nests, because the fake bird’s nests are made so sophisticatedly that they easily deceive the buyer’s vision.

But if you just observe carefully, you can distinguish between real and fake. Real bird’s nests are often quite rough and fibrous, while fake bird’s nests will be softer. If you hold a real bird’s nest up to sunlight, you will see the light passing through the bird’s nest fibers, and you will see that the bird’s nest fibers are opaque white. As for fake bird’s nests, when held up to light, the bird’s nest fibers will reflect light and have a transparent white color.

If you are more observant, you will see that when you hold it in your hand, the real bird’s nest is much lighter and rougher than the fake bird’s nest. The real bird’s nest only weighs about 3.5 to 15g while the fake bird’s nest usually weighs up to 20g.
